The region’s much anticipated dance music festival, saw another record turnout as more than 27,000 revelers from the world over, including an overwhelming increase in tourist attendance which saw over 40%, thronged the pristine sands of Siloso Beach, Sentosa from the festival’s onset at 8pm till sunrise at 8am. Feel good vibes, happy tunes and an unforgettably great time were the only things on the people’s minds, as they shifted sand across four stages, including one arena at Wave House Sentosa that added yet another dynamic to the much-loved beach festival. With something to suit everyone’s groove, the remarkable line-up boasted local ‘Unplugged’ acts who set the tone for the night in the early hours, ZoukOut debutants and dance music’s finest alike. From the pumping House tunes of The Martinez Brothers, psychedelic buoyant harmonies of Aeroplane, Hip Hop flavor from three-time World DMC Championship Winner DJ Craze, and an electrifying ‘live’ performance by Miss Kittin & The Hacker, not forgetting the crème de la crème, Minimal Techno’s poster boy Richie Hawtin (Mo. 1 on Resident Advisor’s Top DJs 2009 Poll), prominent Defected Records’ founder Simon Dunmore and his energetic posse, percussionist extraordinaire Shovell and vocalist Yasmeen, as well as Trance headliner Armin van Buuren (voted No. 1 DJ thrice by DJ Mag), who all proved what they do best; rocking the party proper in the spirit of ZoukOut.
A kaleidoscope of colours with customised neon laser strobes, sky trackers, stunning fireworks plus essential mood boosters that came in form of attractive, larger than life stiltwalkers, unique art installations, free carnival rides, holistic vendors and even giant floating seagulls, filled the party-scape promising nothing less than a spectacular visual feast for all. And amongst those sighted include Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. George Yeo who dropped in for a visit. All in all, a resounding success with a record turn out for the 9th consecutive year, ZoukOut 2009 sets to be the exciting lead up for ZoukOut’s 10th year anniversary in 2010.
